Baby girl's first fartlek 0.75 mi

Played out in the snow with my 3 kids and wife for a while this afternoon. We had an awesome snow ball fight and just generally romped around in the yard. I asked my 8 year old if she wanted to run some loops around the neighborhood in the snow with me. She said yes and so we headed out after finishing shoveling the driveway as a family.

I've been trying to get my kids more into running, and I actually think my oldest is starting to take to it. She told me the other day that she ran some laps at recess "just for the fun of it", so I think that's a good sign! We plodded along at a super slow pace and I told my girl to just take it easy.

After we jogged for a while, I told her that when we got to the lightpole down the road, we were going to race to then next lightpole about 100 yards farther down the road. She thought that sounded like a fun idea, so we raced there and she woooped me pretty bad. That kid's got some wheelz!! Then I asked her "So do you know what we just did? We are doing a fartlek!" At which point, she just cracked up and thought that was the funniest word ever. So then I proceeded to explain what a fartlek is and told her that's what we were going to do for the rest of our snowy jaunt through the hood.

We continued the snowy tour of our neighborhood and did a mix of run, jog, walk, and even skipping! I let her choose one of the pickups and she wanted to skip, so that's what we did. It must have looked pretty funny for my neighbors to see me energetically skipping down the snowy sidewalk with Gracie, but she just had a blast and that's all that I care about. The last leg of the run was a race across the street to my car parked in our garage, and once again, Gracie rocked my world!

Ahhh, what a fun time and a great day frolicking out in the snow!

Thanks everybody! @Sabrina - How did you do the beans, eat them all at once or munch on a few at a time spread out? I'm curious as I'm new to taking energy gels/chews while running, and still trying to work it out.
