    great Tenmangu 3.71 mi 00:30 08:04 pace

Fast few miles after a(n actually) very productive day at work and before dinner. Felt fast, actually was pretty fast. Fought to keep form and breathing, but given that it was still a very muggy 81... read more

    great Tenmangu 3.71 mi 00:41 11:04 pace

Great run after work with Caitie P. A little buggy, but nice to get out and work up a sweat in the sunshine. Warmed down by going to get groceries for dinner, and it's still 77F, an hour after... read more

    good Tenmangu 3.71 mi 00:31 08:22 pace

Up and out before work. Just needed to get the legs moving again. Didn't expect this sort of pacing - I definitely worked for it, though. Sore, but worth it. Ready to start taking this serious... read more

    alright nagaoka 3.06 mi 00:32 10:22 pace

First run since the Kyoto Marathon, about which I have not updated. I will do that soon, hopefully tonight. Beautiful weather - 75 F. Thinking of Boston.

    alright Katsura 12 11.96 mi 02:18 11:30 pace

Definitely in Taper Town. This run wasn't as smooth/good feeling as last week's 22, which may be a sign that I'm actually fully losing my mind. After a week of very thoroughly (I hop... read more

    great 22.54 mi 04:23 11:41 pace

Boom. Welcome to "taper." I know that I haven't run as much as I usually do when training. I know that I've been inconsistent. But we got this run in amidst the massive headwind... read more

alright Monday Recovery Route 3.15 mi 00:27 08:26 pace

Supposed to be a recovery route, but was a little faster than I'd expected. This was motivated by two things: positive vibes and the fact that tonight was half price night at Pizza Hut. How co... read more

Caitie and I are Asakusa Shrine in Tokyo. This is the giant Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) entering the shopping district.

  12. RUN
    great 16 mi 02:57 11:04 pace

Oops! Out for a nice jog along the Sumida River in Tokyo. Got out of the flu-ridden town for a weekend and got in what was supposed to be a 14 miler before heading off to destroy some ramen. Thanks... read more

Great one. I guess one thing about running in Japan is that hydration is never a real problem. Even in the rural areas I've run in, it's hard not to trip over a vending machine every tenth of a mile or so. Mmmm... Pocari Sweat and Aquarius. :)

Haha, it's very very true. At first, we were concerned about the ability to find liquid, but we soon realized that both the convenience stores' true convenience and the endless supply of vending machines ensure that (usually) we don't have to look far if we need to look. Of course, running in a new place has its disadvantages, like following the signs for that Phantom 7-11 after already running 7 out. But it's all in the game! Great day to get a long run in a new city in!

... and, of course, when "Jock Semple-san" attempted to redirect Caitie ("Switzer-san"), you went all "Tom Miller-san" on his arse, right? This is truly one for the history books! Congrats to both of you. As for my chewing up the course ... well, I'd need a jackhammer for that. ;) Perhaps we could auction off the pieces afterward for a good charity. Know any? :)

Admittedly, my Tom-Miller-ing was more trying to adhere to Japanese cultural norms and politely explain that despite the fact that her bib was a different color than mine, we would be running the longer race together, and the volunteers needn't worry about the confusion. Something along those lines. It's a less confrontational people. But I supported her every step of the way for sure, start to finish! She even has the 5-minute faster finisher certificate to prove it (Her chip was set to the next wave)!
