Woke up to first frost of the year - Just great! But forecast was for sun and luckily it arrived, warming the 1°C to about 8°C come race start, and thankfully drying the roads - perfect conditions.
A bit of banter with my pen neighbours about my lack of shoes and we were off. The first few miles were quiet, with a few muted comments from running pairs. I seemed to be overtaking a lot of people with little bursts of speed and my average pace was looking good, but at this point I just thought 'time in the bank' for later.
At 6 miles I took my one and only gel but soon hit a half mile of awful road surface. This seemed to be a topic of conversation with fellow runners and I enjoyed answering the questions from then on. Further along was a half mile of freshly laid section still strewn with loose chippings much to the other runners entertainment! I had to stop briefly a couple of times to remove stubborn stones.
I started to tire at mile 10 but so were other runners, and I carried on overtaking knowing I could maintain my pace for the final 3 miles providing the roads stayed tolerable. They did, and after a 7:35 min / mile final mile it was a sprint finish on cool wet grass.
Apart from all the encouragement I heard a lot of the spectators commenting "There's another barefoot runner" later in the race. Unfortunately I didn't see him / her / them but it would be great to find out how they did.
I had a 4.5 minute wait to cross the start line due to the 4,500 runners but it meant I overtook a lot of runners - 328 runners in the second half alone (according to http://www.runpix.info/arace7/00/finord_one.php?id=2244&ev=ptb12&dt=21#) (I didn't count!)
Feet feel OK considering the pace, no blisters and hopefully good for my barefoot run on Tuesday.

Outstanding performance! Sounds like you ran it perfectly and dealt with the tricky parts well. Congratulations, Bob!

Bob, this is exactly how I want my Sarasota Half Marathon report to read in March. Well done, man. Wicked pace.

Thanks guys. Soles on the mend today but quads tired, which I've not experienced before in the vffs. I was less than 3 minutes off my PB from last year in vibrams so definitely pushed it!
