A question for all of the cyclists.
I bought my first road bike a few weeks ago (training for first tri) and am starting to look at new pedals. My question is if I go with a recessed pedal will I lose much? I don’t consider myself fast by any means. I would like the ability to walk around while riding and as a newbie it seems like being able to clip in either side might be helpful. I think I would also switch the pedals between my mountain and road bike.
Thanks in advance
Bill

I use a dual platform pedal, similar to a Shimano PD-A530 SPD Road Dual Platform Bike Pedal. It has a clip on one side and a flat on the other side. I also use a recessed clip mount on my biking shoe such that I can technically use either pedal side and still walk around.
