good River Run for Hope 10K, Roswell GA 6.21 mi 00:53 08:35 pace

7 AM start was a little tough, but the trade-off was being able to run in a little cooler weather. There were even a few open spots along the ‘Hooch where we caught very cool air coming off the mist covered water and that was refreshing. Lots of runners, most of them in the 5K, but I had plenty of company to run with in the 10K.

The out leg is slightly uphill as we run upstream alongside the Chattahoochee, culminating in the only real hill at the turnaround, and that one hill wasn’t so bad. On the way back, we followed the river’s barely downhill path. Lots of shade on the course. Plenty of road, so the 5K back markers weren’t an obstacle.

My splits were pretty consistently right around 8:30 and I felt good the whole way. I believe I was 1st AG, even though the finish board had a guy in my age group who supposedly ran a 36 minute 10K. They also had the overall winner as a 63 year old who supposedly ran a 28 minute 10K. Consensus among the older set was that those guys were 5K runners whose times somehow got into the 10K results. None of us knew them.

Even though it was a little cooler, I was completely sweat soaked at the finish, but happy with my time of 53:23, 8:33 pace and – pretty sure – 1st AG.

Congratulations, Bill! It's just amazing with what a consistency you do all these races on so high level. Time is great and perfectly reflects your everyday running efforts.

Congrats! That's one of my favorite races. Tell me, do you scout your likely competition before the race too? Sometimes our AG is easy to spot....

@Arleen - yes, I seem to compete against the same guys in the bigger races and we are always aware of each other and of course we do the right amount of sandbagging before the race.

By "hooch" I assume you are not describing an aid station with alcoholic beverages, but rather that the portion of the race ran along the Chattahoochee? :-) Solid pace, congrats on the AG!

Great race on a great course Bill! I'm surprised that they were so disorganized about the timing though, I thought it was better organized than that.
