  9. Looking for Advice....I am 2 weeks away from my marathon and am dealing with shinsplints! Today I could only run about 1.5 miles before they were really hurting. I am lucky I have 2 weeks to heal... read more

      I had shinsplints about 2 weeks before the flying pig half. I stopped running for several days. Iced, motrin. Then did a few miles for a few days before the race. The pig is quite hilly so not ideal. They felt okay the weekend of the race. Must admit I did the 5k the day before as I was running it with my 13 yo. I did not want to miss that. Shin pain returned 7 miles into my half. If your race is flat. I would just rest as much as possible and continue to ice.

      I realize my issue was different but I had some IT band issues right before my marathon in May. I stopped running for 3 weeks before the race and took 1 ibuprofen before the race then at mile 7 when I started to feel it, I took 1 more and was fine the rest of the race. I'm definitely not a pill popper, I don't even take asprin when I have a headache but I was determined to run that marathon and I think it really helped me so it could help you too. Take a rest from running though and give your legs

      whoops....a chance to heal. I was freaked out not running for 3 weeks before my marathon. I thought I would loose all my fitness but honestly come race day I was so anxious to run I think it helped me. :) Good luck!

      Thanks everyone! I biked a lot the last two weeks and was able to run a solid 8 today, so with some aspirin (or lots), i'm feeling good to go. your advice really really helped me, thanks so much!
