good Mohican 50 K Survival Race 31 mi 08:42 16:50 pace

This was the most difficult challenge I have ever run. This was the first year for this race and half of the field dropped out of the race because the course was so unforgiving. I however did not take the "DNF" option as I went to run my first Ultra Trail race and was not going home until I ran, walked and crawled all 50k. My calf held up great thanks to one of the most amazing products ever Zensah compression sleeves. My quads were trashed with a downhill from the fire tower to covered bridge that was approximately 4 miles downhill. So, I feel relatively good today. Walked downstairs without pain. Not sure I want to run for that long ever again, I will surely run more ultras but will find ones that are not so much a survival race as this.

Why were you awake so early?! Tell me you got some sleep. Why don't you post the elevation chart for us, buddy? You are hardcover, Bert...super proud of you! Any pictures to share?

Based on the average paces, I'd say it was a rough course! Mohican is pretty notorious for being difficult. But the important thing is that you pushed through and finished. I'm guessing this will be the first of many ultras for you. How are your legs feeling?

is there room for one more comment?? :-D FIrst of all, I hope you are signing up for the Forget the PR Mohican 50K in April. I did the Mohican 25K, same day (16 miles) last year and probably will do it again. For me, that 25K at Mohican was harder than the Columbus marathon, even though the 25K trail race was much shorter distance. So obviously you kick a$$ because you did the 50K!

WTG Greg!!! That's awesome, but sounds so grueling!! Do tell, how did you train for this?? Obviously, based on your pace, a lot of walking/climbing hills is involved. Alissa and I both signed up for the 25k in April and now I'm a little freaked out about it after reading your post! Any advce for us??

Birgit - I haven't done a marathon yet, and signed up for the 25k in April. I too was thinking that this will probably be physically as hard, probably harder than a marathon. Yikes! Scared!!
