I'm currently looking for a new GPS-capable heartrate-monitor, since my old Garmin Forerunner 305 simply won't be able to handle the longer activities (100km/mi races) I'm planning for this year and the following ones... Any suggestions? The variety of available gear is simply to much for me to manage on my own, because every company claims their gear is the best there ever will be... :)

how long does your 305 last? I've taken mine out for a 9 hour run before.

I have a 305 but I suggest reading reviews on amazon, especially those from runners. Reviews helped me choose a Nathan's hydration pack over a camelback and I have been so pleased. Happy hunting!

I've got a 405 and was either thinking of getting a newer version and changing watches part way through or getting a different watch that can handle the longer run time - I'll be curious what responses you get! I saw something about one that starts with an M, but can't find the link.

910XT, It has the longest battery life of the Garmin line (12 hours, with GPS <?>) When I replaced my 305 I opted for the 610, which is supposed to last 8-9 hours, and from using it that is probably pretty close.
Runner G is probably thinking about Motoactive, it sounds like it still has some maturing and questionable battery life.

Have you considered something like this?

If it is too much hassle, then 910xt looks like the way to go.

Shortly before finishing the Rennsteiglauf (see below) the 305 warned me off low battery status, which fits with the product details from Garmin, stating it will last about 10 hours... So I was looking for a little longer lasting watch...
