great With My Son 1.2 mi

This was probably the most rewarding run in the past six months. My son, by his own admission, is not a runner. He ran a mile with me in 2009 when I was training for the Marine Corps Marathon and I was in heaven--he's such a good kid and I'm so glad he was there at the finish of that race. It was my fourth marathon of the year and I was battling through Plantar Fasciitis and he was trying to supply that extra motivation I needed to complete the second to the last one of the year. It worked. This time I'm not training for anything--just running and he ran with me anyway. I'm feeling better than I thought I would--after whatever I've been battling for so long. I was very impressed w/my son's pace and the fact that he did not complain once. The wind was swirling quite a bit but he was undaunted. His breathing didn't seem labored and we were at a 8 min per mile pace. He just focused and kept running. At the beginning I noticed he was running on his toes so I did tell him to relax that a bit (thought his calves might seize up on him) and he took it in stride and stopped bouncing. Toward the end he took off w/.10 of a mile to go and sprinted home. He was sitting on the grass when I go there and I reached out my hand to help him up and asked him to walk around the block w/me. I told him this: "You only live once, but if you work it right, once is enough." ---Joe Louis Have a great day!

@ Chad W--you betcha! Wish it could have been longer--maybe one day. He's one of those that passed my 5 min test (you'd have to read Chad's post to understand). He's worth trying to save.

That is great - I have high hopes of my kids running with me when they get older. I can't imagine anything greater than sharing a sport I love with the people I love. What a wonderful time for you!
