I ran the 100% Irish for a day 10 mile race today. I didn't know if I was going to be able to do it, but I pack all my items the night before when to bed and got up and ran. It was a little cold 15-10 degrees. I was more worried about the ice on the course than the temperature. I dressed in layers so that worked out well. the race started and I just tried to keep a even pace. I was using this more as a training run than as a really a race. I thought about taking off some layers at about the 4 mile mark, but only took off my hood and gloves. I'm glad I did because when I got to the other side of the lake the wind was blowing and it started to get chilling. I saw a runner who was walking at the 6 mile mark. I gave him some encouragement as I passed pretty soon after he passed me. I told him good job. A mile down the run I saw him walking again. I told him I expect him to pass me again. He said he would join me. We ran together for a little while I found out this was his first race ever! He chooses a 10 mile and he had never gone the distance. I told he goes big. After a little while he had to slow down. i told him I will see him at the finish and don't give up. I had 2 miles left at this point. I was feeling good and I checked my watch. Even though it was only a training run I didn't want to go over 1:40 so I picked up my pace. I was still feeling good with 1 mile to go so I push on through. I even had enough for a kick with about .25 left. I finished strong with a time of 1:36:55ish. Don't know there wasn't a chip timing race. This was about a 9:40 pace. I will take it this early in the season and the farthest I have run all year. I'm really glad I did it. Couple more pics on my blog
