Foot hurt the whole time, and started to get worse, so had to quit early. Starting to think I may not be able to run this marathon. Why can't I get through one marathon without injuries? This just Sucks!

:( Have you ever completely, 100% healed since you started having all these issues?

Sheila, last year it was the other foot. I have had no problems from it thus far, so it has healed. I don't know why I keep getting foot problems, and nobody seems to know how to figure out what is causing it. I already wear orthotics. I just don't know what to do anymore, as I have tried everything. I am so frustrated. I work hard and never get the payoff for it. Maybe I need to see an exorcist. lol

April, try the barefoot approach. You have to do it slow, though. Don't, repeat, don't, push it. Maybe it's the salvation :-)))

oh no so sorry to hear this. so strange, the doctors you went to didnt really help or offer any info? were they sports med people? i feel like a cortisone shot isnt helpful... maybe you need new orthotics or no orthotics at all?

Michelle, I have been wearing orthotics for years. I started to try to go without them after my PF started hurting, but I think I need to wait until my injuries are gone before I go that route. Cortisone has not helped the PF for me. I have two pairs of orthotics, both still good, so they aren't worn out. I don't have a specific sports med doctor on my insurance plan, but they wouldn't be able to tell me anything new anyway. I have been battling this for soooo long, and am beyond frustrated.

I have almost every foot issue a person can have. (accessory navicular bones, Morton's toe, zero dorsiflexion, snapped tendon that healed that way, too much movement from the metatarsals. etc.) All of these have been diagnosed, but nobody can tell me what I need to be able to run. @ Huy, I would love to go barefoot, but would never be able to handle the temps and worry about stepping on something.

Go VFF full time then? It's the next best thing after huaraches. The key is "Less is More."

I've thought about it Huy. I may work towards that. However, the VFF's don't work so well on trails. Rocks hurt!

So sorry to read about this. All this advice you've had and still the frustrations continue. So many conflicting opinions I'm sure. More support or go barefoot? Long rest or run through it? I know it seems like there is no hope sometimes but . . . How about the guy with no legs running the 400! With your dedication (I don't know many with as much as you) you will find a way.

Agree with Brian. Sure hope you find your way through this and the sooner the better. Earlier this year when I was having so much trouble with the running and therefore spending so much time at the pool and swimming my coach was glad to see me swimming so much. Yes, I love the swimming (now...didn't used to) but I was still sad I couldn't run. I'm glad I have 3 sports that I enjoy so I almost always have at least one I can do, but when I can't run I am very sad and discouraged.

Thanks guys! I know we have all been through it. I just really am frustrated not because I am injured, but because I keep getting injured, and have not had a successful marathon training season in sooo long. I just can't think of what it is I am doing wrong. I would fix it if I knew. I'm going to keep trying though, and will run this thing even without the training as long as I am not injured, even though it won't be the time I was hoping for.
