Just an easy 6. Weather was cool this morning. Can't make up its mind if it wants to be hot or cold. Just hoping it stays a little cooler for next weekend.

Woohoo! Lottery results are in. Got into St. George Marathon again this year. I just hope my foot allows me to run it this time.

Awesome Michelle! I love that race! My first year I cramped bad and ended up falling many times in the last 8 miles, still PR'd, but have wanted to get my revenge ever since. It was the first time I had ever cramped before. The second year was my first and only DNF due to my foot injury, and last year, after training intensely, I injured my other foot and didn't even go. Praying my luck is better this time! lol If I can just keep myself together, I think I could do really well in that one. :)

It is hilly, but the overall downhill makes it fast. I do very well on downhills, but am just concerned about this foot of mine. I am sure ready to get my revenge.

Oh yeah, I read about that race Phil. Doesn't sound like something I would want to do though. I would get lost for sure.

Just watch the ground ahead of you. You should be doing that anyway if you are on trails. They won't attack you for no reason. The little ones are a little stupid, and thus more dangerous than the big ones. Out here, the only dangerous ones are the rattlesnakes, and all the others are harmless.

Upper body stuff
No running for a couple of days. Drug myself out of bed early to go to the gym though, and I do mean drug. I had no energy, and even light weight felt heavy. Maybe I didn't eat enough the last... read more

Leo, there isn't much intensity involved with the long miles. I did that for a little while training for Ragnar since our team wanted to win (and we did), but as soon as Ragnar was over, I went back to the long slow miles. It's harder on my foot to do the fast stuff, especially at the same time as the long miles. I'll try to get my speed back up after this race is over.

Yes, we do need those challenges. You can look at people around you and pick out many who have no goal in life but to get through each day. So many people seem to live in a prison in their own bodies. Without something to work towards, where is the joy? It's our hardest efforts that have the biggest payoff. I find that if you do this long enough, it becomes part of who you are, and you no longer feel good without those challenges. That's why we get so distraught when sidelined with injuries.

Yeah, I wonder sometimes if working my calves would help with my foot issues, but then working them hurts my feet, so I can't win. Maybe just start out by doing calf raises with no weight on a step/stair. You can get a pretty good burn/pump that way, especially if you do them one leg at a time. Also, turning your toes inward or outward works different muscles in your calves. (a trick taught to me by a former boyfriend who was a professional bodybuilder)
