      Ann, did you eat before you ran? If so, what did you have? Are you sleeping well?

      I was already wondering if that could have something to do with it...
      In the last months, I always ran in the evening, at least an hour, often longer after my main meal of the day.
      Today I ran about 45 minutes after a lunch consisting of a slice of bread with cheese and two apples...

      Perhaps a little more protein? Or perhaps food has nothing to with it at all. Most of the time, I don't eat anything before a run, without I'll effect. My other guess would be stress. Have you been unduly stressed lately?

      Stress might be a factor. But I realized that when I run on two consecutive days, I usually have the longer run on the first day, and the shorter on the second. I think I'm going to try to do it the other way round...

      You're doing it the right way, Ann. I started barefooting like gangbusters (from 0.5K one Wednesday morning to 14K the following Sunday), and paid for it by being unable to walk, much less run, for a week or so. Be patient, be gentle, and you'll progress quickly.

      That kind of running surface is not fun when you're barefoot. I know of BF who can run on gravel (Ken Bob Saxton is one of them), but it's a skill I haven't mastered yet. Good for you for getting that run, even with the cold temperatures!

      I'm often struck by how noisy shod runners are. It's particularly noticeable at races, when there are so many of them. As for cold early morning pavement... I find it helps if my feet are thoroughly warmed up before I start my BF run. That often means having a hot shower before I go out, or wearing thick woolen socks around the house before I run.

      Last year I kind of overtrained, and since I started running again afterwards, I really took care to take it slow...

      And since I started running barefoot, it seems much easier to maintain a regular pace/a regular (low) HR.
