There were some patches I could jog and some I definitely had to walk. It looks like it's thawing out so hopefully the next one will be better.

Went out a bit too fast and so my last mile was a lot slower. Any advice for building up speed? I'd like to be able to maintain a 5min km over 10km for my next race.

I would say I got faster by running with runners who were slightly faster than me. My other advice would be to put in the mileage on the pavement and do some hill training. The speed will come eventually.

      Good Luck:

This pace is good. To improve this figures need a lot of previous training. Look for specific training programs, but be aware, improvements on speed usually carry out lose of endurance ( and viceversa).
