I ruptured my L5 - S1 intervertebral disc and all the jelly-like core from this disc has spilled out. They tell me it won't refill. Running aggravates it, so my running days may be over. I was training to qualify for the Fort Bliss Army 10-Miler Team and race in D.C. I'm surprised at how I'm not as bummed as I would have imagined.

Jog with Brian. Chiropractor says that my hamstrings are likely pulling on my back, that my glutes and smaller back muscles need to be strengthened to balance things out. The short of it - my back ... read more

    injured Track 4.25 mi

STRONG easterly wind made this 6 x 400m interesting: 68/74/77/73/74/72: 5 seconds slower per interval than last workout - plus my back has been bugging to the extent that it effected the way I ran.

  4. RUN
    good Treadmill 3 mi 00:18 06:00 pace

Ran it all straight through. Had the incline up between 1 and 1.5. Felt good. Cranked the incline up all that last minute. I am feeling more comfortable at this pace on the treadmill. Good good.

I just glanced at my running since Fall 2011. My biggest week in 2011 was only about 25 miles. My biggest week in 2012 was about 35 miles. Back in 2006 I was hitting 30 miles/week consistently for ... read more

    good Treadmill. 1.5 incline 3 mi 00:18 06:00 pace

Had to hit the pot at 12:30. Other than that, this was a good run for me. I feel like this was more of a lactate threshold pace, but one that was manageable.

Lactate threshold pace? You sound really smart. What does that mean?

And 'had to hit the pot'? Funny. :) I'm sure you don't mean either of the two things that quickly come to mind. Or maybe you do...I don't know what you mean.

I had to do a google search to get a proper definition. Basically it means you run at a pace where your body is at the threshold of being able to buffer lactic acid faster than your muscles produce it. If you run so fast that your body cannot keep up with lactic acid production, your muscles fatigue. Here is a link to some simple info about it: http://www.runnersworld.com/workouts/tempo-runs-done-right

Well, I don't know for sure what came to mind to you, but when you gotta go, you gotta go. They say some of the elite runners will just do it while they are running without slowing down - eewww gross.
