With the completion of the Shamrock 1/2 Marathon, I'll be training up for the Marine Corps Marathon. Being a former Marine, it was a no-brainer for my 1st!

Ted Walters it's interesting how ...

Track and share your training!

Dailymile makes it easy to keep track of your workouts. Map your routes and share with a community of active people.

It's interesting how several people are reporting their Garmin final distance was 13.18, 13.19 miles. Mine was 13.17, but it was dead on at the halfway point with the flag. Wonder wher the extra came from? The course is obviously certified.

It came from the garmin. They are not 100% accurate and the course is measured using the shortest distance between each corner which most people do not run.

That's what I figured. So you could actually run a faster race if you followed the measurement route without actually running faster it seems. Easier said than done though.

Yep. Actually when racing in a big crowd, you're better off starting as close to the front of your corral as possible. When you start catching other people at corners, slow down and stay to the inside, once around the corner, go by with as little zig zag motion as possible. Always try to look ahead to see which way the next turn goes so you can angle your way to the inside again.

Yes. . for the full it had 26.56 for me. . .my Garmin is always off for races- I read about how to be accurate with certified courses you need to be in the exact spot for turns. etc. I liked my Garmin time better. lol!

My Garmin is always long - I think I zig-zag through the crowd a lot.
