Felt bloating and discomfort all afternoon (msg in the Chinese food?) but I did it when I got home from work anyway. The only thing that hurt was my left big toe. Weather was great - cold and clear beats running in the rain. The dog seemed to like it too.posted over 1 year ago | Report

I did it! Week One is done! I did it on my break at work and wore my official running shoes. They did feel better than the ones I had at home. I really tried to focus on form today.Pros of running at work: it's flatter and more stable with fewer dips.
Cons of running at work: lots of debris on the path, i.e., leaves and twigs. It took longer again - it's either because I start walking during the Intro or I slow down during the workout, or both. I will figure out the distance and add it later.

I did it! I got it done before the snow starts. It was only 43 degrees so it was no problem. I walked/jogged the trail next to the dog park and the river, so the dog got a reward after we were done. Six 90-second intervals of jogging is 9 minutes total, up from 8 minutes of jogging last week. Making progress.posted over 1 year ago | edited over 1 year ago | Report

Way to go! I'm finding it easier than expected too. I'm just trying to take it easy and not overdo it. So far so good.

Hi Ihopeagain and Sofia,
Congratulations to you both! I completed Day 1, Week 1 on Sunday. I was glad to see other people are just starting out too.I worked through the program last winter and was a pretty competent runner all summer. But I slacked, and so now I'm starting over. I have a 5k race planned in March.

(Forgot to post this on Thursday 11/25/10)Not a bad distance for shuffling through snow, slush, ice and leaves. Got it done and now I can enjoy the rest of the holiday guilt-free. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Completed Week Two! The snowstorm didn't stop me and I feel really empowered by that. Did the Cedar River trail, this time without the dog. I think I prefer doing it with him; don't like being alone out there. I ran in tights Thursday to keep warm and I like the support they give so will buy some running tights when I can.posted over 1 year ago | Report

Did it, despite the drizzle and the still tender stomach from yesterday's bug. I must've gone real slow because I didn't go far. This week is only 9 minutes of running, same as last week. Week 4 jumps to 15 or 16 minutes of running - how do they expect us to do that? I guess I will find out.posted over 1 year ago | Report

Chilly but sunny. Starting to notice my legs/glutes are stronger, more stable - and firmer! Which is good for my weak left hip. Focused on form, landing on my heels, and minimizing "bouncing".posted over 1 year ago | Report

W4D1 - Wasn't sure how I'd make the leap from 9 minutes of running to 16 minutes or running, but I did it. Although I did feel it, especially in my lower legs. Went ultra slow, and focused on minimizing impact and jarring on my joints, especially during the 5 minute running intervals.

W4D2 - Focused on form and how my feet are landing. Some tenderness in ankles and right big toe joint. Did all the running intervals, although I must be the slowest jogger ever. Doesn't matter - I did it!

C25K W4D3. Felt alright during the run/walk. It was a challenge on new surfaces, such as the wooden footbridge. About 2 hours after though, my left hip really started to bother me. I'm worried about it.

W5D1. I did this on the first part of the Jingle Bell Run route. Then walked the rest of the route. We finished in approx. 1 hour and 10 minutes. I wasn't really paying attention. I only focused on the C25K. I did it! And it didn't hurt! Even with the rain and the noise and the crowds, I did it! This was my first 5k and I'm pretty proud about it.

W5D2 done.
This was 2 intervals of 8 minutes of jogging. I am officially more than halfway through the C25K program and I'm thinking, "I am actually doing this." I can't believe I've made it this far, but I have. I'm so glad I started this program. My legs and glutes feel strong, and even my left hip is feeling stable. As usual, I took it slow and focused on form and landing.posted over 1 year ago | Report

Wasn't sure if I'd do it today because I've had a GI bug the past 3 days, but I felt better this morning and it's sunny out and the dog was eager so I tried it. And I'm so glad I did. Feel even better now. Still amazed at how well this program works.posted over 1 year ago | Report

I've had some pain in my right foot since I completed W6D1 on Sunday. This was supposed to be 2 10-minutes jogging intervals. Because of the foot pain, I did 2 incline intervals on the treadmill at the gym of 10 minutes each with 3 minutes of flat walking in between. I set the incline to 10 on both intervals. Did okay the first interval but after 6 minutes on the second interval I reduced the incline to 7 because my heartrate was too high. I was sweating the whole time so it felt like an equivalent intensity to jogging. The warm up/cool down walks to and from the gym took 5 minutes longer each way so the total time was approx 45 minutes. I doubt the accuracy of the distance and time today since I had to modify the workout so much.
It was raining buckets in Ballard on the way to/from the gym. I didn't really like using the treadmill, although I did get to watch an episode of Painting with Bob Ross; he painted some happy little leaves on a tree. So far I've been doing the C25K outdoors and I much prefer that to indoors. Even in the rain and snow.
I feel good that I managed to do some kind of workout. I aim to jog on Saturday, and finish Week 6 on time. Hopefully I won't have any pain.

C25K W6D3.
Jogged the whole 25 minutes. Used the Superfeet inserts. Did some additional foot stretches before and after. Took some ibuprofen. Am icing the right foot now. Am hoping all of this works.Used the thermal running tights I got for Christmas!

With the dog. This was 25 minutes of nonstop jogging, with no walking intervals. Plus a 5-min warm up walk and a 5-min cooldown walk. I'm going to start posting only the distance of the actual jogging time so I can see what my accurate jogging pace is. Looks like I've got my work cut out for me to increase the speed.I still can't believe I'm jogging nonstop for 25 minutes though.

W7D2 done.
Went a little farther today, on both the run and the 5 minute warmup/cooldown walks. Took the dog. It was chilly but I didn't want to wear my heavy coat. I need to get some thermal running tops or something.posted over 1 year ago | Report

W7D3 done.
It went slow and achy today. Specifically in my left hip. This is the second day in a row it ached. It was very chilly this morning and the cotton hoodie just wasn't cutting it so I took someone's advice and bought some clothes at Target - a thermal running hoodie and 2 lightweight longsleeve wicking shirts. I also bought some non-cotton socks. The hoodie is hot pink and I can't wait to use it. :) I bought a heating pad for the hip. I'm wondering whether to use heat or ice on it after a run. It's a big joint and it's close to internal organs. Any ideas?posted over 1 year ago | Report

I did it! I jogged 28 minutes without stopping. I'm still amazed by this. I used the new thermal jacket, thermal tights, and wicking shirt, and was perfectly comfortable and warm but not too warm.posted over 1 year ago | Report

I was supposed to do the run in the morning but had some GI distress so waited until the afternoon. I still wasn't feeling 100% when I did the run but I did it anyway. It was pretty much the same distance as W8D1 which is surprising because I felt like crap the first half of the run. I'm glad I got it done.posted over 1 year ago | Report

Hard, slow run. Had some hip pain before I even went out. Plus some annoying mystery weight gain. Can only guess it's PMS-related. Still, I did it, it didn't rain, and my new shoes felt good. One week left before graduation. I can't believe it's gone so fast. I can't believe I made it this far. So so grateful for that.posted over 1 year ago | Report

Felt pretty good. Still can't call what I'm doing "running" - it is definitely a slow and steady jog. But hey I did it nonstop and that's what matters. This is the last week of the program and I am planning to do my Graduation run at the 5k this Saturday. I'm very excited about it and will sign up for 3 more 5ks this weekend. Yay!posted over 1 year ago | Report

Felt really good. Did it at 10 this morning. Completed the whole 5k walking and jogging in 56:43. Cut almost 15 minutes off my time from the last one I did in December. My husband was there to cheer me through the finish line. Just a really great feeling throughout. I could definitely get used to this. Thanks everyone for your support.Did this race: http://magnusonseries.org/map.html
