Couch to 5K

Just finished Week 6!

posted almost 2 years ago | Report

I just wanted to post and say that for everyone in the group who just started the C25K program or is in the early weeks, it's been an amazing journey. I still have 3 weeks to go, but next week is the first with no more run/walk intervals -- it's all running from here.

When I started it was a struggle to run the 60-second intervals, and looking forward to Week 7 and no more walking was unimaginable. But here I am, actually *eager* for next week because I know I can do it. Learning to trust the program and my body's ability to adapt has been really critical.

Anyway, I just wanted to post because I'm thrilled to have made it this far, I'm looking forward to graduating (and buying myself a pair of REAL running shoes), and to encourage folks who are just starting out.

:-)

  • Congrats! Such an inspiration. Week 7 seems so far away for those of us who just started so it is nice to see that it gets easier down the road!!

  • I'm 44 years old, and after losing 40+ lbs last year, I started the 5K training plan the 1st of Jan this year. To have a solid goal, I signed up for my first 5K event, which I did on Feb 20th! I was slow, and I did have to take a couple walk-breaks, but it felt soooo good to cross that finish line NOT walking... I got a great pair of running shoes, fitted to my happy little feet, and I am now working on improving both my time and endurance for my 2nd 5K, in April or May... I started the program as a total non-runner, and agreeing with other responses I've read on this, it is HUGELY mental. But if you believe you can do it, than you can. Get discouraged? Log on here and read anyone's story... there's great inspiration here for the taking! I know it really keeps me going... I have no one but my little dog to run with, and live in a fairly non-running neighborhood with a definite non-running husband who thinks I'm a bit nuts for doing this... But I'm hooked!

Some days I feel like a turtle, other days I feel like a baby elephant chasing the peanut truck, but those days when I catch the sun coming up over the waterfront, and there's only the sound of my easy striding feet shushing the pavement, I feel like Superwoman...

I wish you strength and light-flying feet for next week... you go! I hope this helps!
