I started my training plan from total non-runner beginning Jan 1st of this year... Did my first ever 5K on Feb 20th... Finished it in 40:36 (13:05 pace)... not sure if that's "good" or not, but I was sure proud to cross that finish line! Currently training to better that time for my next 5K in April or May...

To give you a gaugte, my first 5K (3.2 miles) I signed up only a few weeks prior and didn't do much training. I completed it in a walk/run format within 45 minutes. The next one I did with a little more running was 4.2 mile "5K" and was done in 53 minutes. (That one I actually sorta trained for) currently gearing up for my next one in about 40 days!

Great job Sherrie! I am having a similar experience. I signed up for my first 5k on January 21st. Before that I had not run a day in my life. My race is this Saturday, (March 27). I am looking forward to the pride in finishing!
I think you're pace was fantastic. Congrats!posted almost 2 years ago | Report

I started training after never running, not even in high school all those years ago, in mid January using the C25K program. I wasn't very consistant due to other things keeping me from being motivated to run.
My first 5K was March 21st and I was running at Week 6 Day 2 in the program although I should have been in week 9. Prior to running the 5K I had only completed 2.2 miles per run.
My 5K time walking & running was 44:29 with a 14:11 pace. This was an improvement over most of my times running in my flat neighborhood. The terrain was hilly and offroad for the first mile so I felt REALLY good about my time and my pace since I had not run on hills or off road OR actually completed the actual 5K distance before.
I think the momentum from so many people around you helps.
Good luck and have fun!
