What makes a bike ninja a bike ninja?

posted about 2 years ago | Report

The $64,000 question answered...

1) Wears a balaclava and looks ninja-like. (You know what a ninja looks like right? If not, refer to my profile pic.)
2) Rides insane distances even if it's cold outside. (Occasional trainer baby or spin class miles allowed.)
3) Has a beard. (That is if he is a man. Beard's not required for girl ninjas. Allowed, but not required.)
4) Has killed a furry creature with his/her bike. (I killed a mouse once and nearly hit a skunk.)
5) Has broken a bone while riding. (I have not done this unless you count the mouse in #4.)
6) Rides downhill at speeds exceeding 40mph. (I set this one at 45mph because that's the highest speed I've hit.)

If you meet one or all of these criteria, you are welcome in this group. (Any other descriptors that need to be added? I am open to suggestions.)

  • 1) As of this winter, I have a balaclava and love it! Sad, I know. Wish I was that excited about regular clothes, says my wife.
    2) 800+ miles in January, inside and outside.
    3) I'm lazy and only shave 2-3 times a week. My family is used to the Miami Vice look.
    4) Killed squirrel. He was an idiot and launched in front of me. Ran right over his head going about 23 while leading a small group. Had no choice.
    5) Not a good idea to answer this one.
    6) Go down Roanoke Hill on my N. Loop instead of up, add a little bit of wind from the North, and you've got 41 mph easy.

And ninjas has fancy weapons. My weapon of choice: an Orbea Orca with DurACE everything.

  • If you shave your legs, can you still be a ninja? If you must have furry legs, is there a length requirement for the leg hair?

  • shaved legs are irrelevant, eric. as long as your leg hair is well groomed and does not whistle in the wind while you're riding, it is fine. shaved legs or okay too. hiyah!

  • Point 4)
Not killed a furry creature but yesterday killed my mobile phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fell out of my pocket and got run over by my rear wheel
Luckily it was a works phone, it was old and hey today they gave me a new one

  • 1) Yes
    2) I don't ride insane distances........
    3) Part asian. Naturally hairless.
    4) Rabbits. Several close calls with raccoons and squirrels
    5) Have never broken a bone.
    6) I have done this before, but not on my current bike. 54 mph is my max speed downhill. 38.5 mph is my max speed so far on this bike. 38.5 mph also corresponds to nearly 200 RPM on my bike.

    4) no roadkill yet ( maybe I can skip this cuz I'm a girl ninja and we hate to kill)
    5) I broke my leg last summer ( not from the bike but from a canoe... that's worse)
