when did you start practicing? why? what has it done for you? i find that it has helped me in many different aspects of my life. is this true for you guys as well? just curious ;)

  • I found Yoga to bring my family together. A time for quiet, something we never seem to have! Some how I am getting older-not sure when that happened! With that I noticed some tightness in my muscles, so it was nice to be able to stretch a little more and get some flexibility back.
Overall, the best thing for me was having time for me. And, I think letting my family find the same for themselves!

  • It changed my life completely. I have learnt to listen to my body and hear it when it gives me signs. I have gained a way of slowing down, focusing. In my running it has allowed me to find that same meditative state which changed everything.

It showed me how big my ego was and how I had so little compassion for myself. Forward bends are the ultimate test! Pushing and pull and you will get hurt. That's the ego coming out. Being compassionate is taking a break when your body needs it and not beating yourself up over performance and stuff like that.

    Couldn't be without it!

  • yoga was always too slow for me, but now i look forward to joining a clas almost as much as looking forward to a run. The peace I get, the reminder that I love myself, the seperation from the noise, is extremely therapuetic for me. amen for yoga

  • I tried yoga when i was in my teens, but it wasn't enough high energy for me so I quick became bored. I continued to run through out high school and college and it was while I was training for the lil' 50 at IU that I had the worst leg pain of my life. My IT band felt like it was going to pop and my knee might go with it. I had to quite the thing I loved the most cold turkey. Fast forward 6 years when I decided to start teaching yoga, countless hours of asanas, and I decided to see if I could run again. Sure enough the pain wasn't there and I felt strong. I've since signed up for the Chicago 1/2 marathon and Full!!!!! I feel like my 'old' self again, but if it wasn't for Yoga and getting me stretched out and stronger I wouldn't be running!

  • I started yoga a few years ago, but only in the past year has it really taken a hold of my life. Through yoga I find the peace and calm to regulate my thoughts and find my center in the stressful moments of my life. Not only does it strengthen my muscles and help with flexibility for running, but it also brings a whole new aspect to every part of my life. Deep breathing and calm mind really brings energy into my life.

I am an advocate for yoga and not just the practice of yoga in a class, but of bringing the mindset of yoga into every part of your life. Namaste

  • A Yoga practice gives me the feeling of being connected. The feeling of being connected to my Self (spiritual Self here), my body and my feelings. Without it, I don't think I'd be able to interpret these emotions as well as I can. That's why I practice.

  • I found acceptance with who I am and what I can do. Namaste!
