Trying to Get Back

posted about 2 years ago | Report

I just joined this group to see what others my age are running.
I am almost 53 and trying to get back to running after a torn hamstring this past winter. Today was my first positive try. My intervals were 4 min walking and 2 or 3 min running. I finished with a 5 min jogging interval. On my treadmill for now because my ham string spread the joy of pain to my knees and the pavement is too much of an impact right now.. so i hope this is a start.
I run in the Huntsman Senior games, well every year since i have turned 50. They are inspiring and FUN. The runners are all 50 - 99 years old, but do not let age be a judging factor. Most states have 'senior' games with 5k, 10k, and 1/2 marathon. The fastest pace for the Utah games 5k is under 7 min/mile for women. These ladies can run. The men are faster, i think under 6 min pace.
Google your state's senior games if you are motivated to do this. They can be encouraging events.
Hope to be posting longer running times soon.

  • Just because we are getting older does not mean our age group is slowing down.Glade to here you are recovering from the torn hamstring and not letting it stop you from running again.
I am training for my 3rd marathon and this time my 18 year old son has decided to join me.Last year for my 50th birthday I told my husband I wanted an entry into the Marine Corps Marathon. His first response was "Are you sure?"and than he said if that is what I wanted it was fine with him. He braged about it to all of our friends and his co-workers.Some of my younger running friends think I am nuts "doing this at your age ". Keep up the rehab and hopefully I'll hear from you soon about how great you did at the race.
