60+ and still running

posted about 2 years ago | Report

I just joined the 40+ group....but for real most of the members are in their 40's! Are there any more "mature" runners out there? I ran for a long while but stopped in my late 40's for a number of reasons. I returned to running a little over a year ago and have completed 5 half marathons, 1 marathon and several 5k and 10k races.
Hello out there silver runners!

  • Not a silver runner...yet! (45yrs) But hope to be some day. Congrats to you. I'm hoping to run at least 1 mile by this summer. I'm just a walker but adding a little running every day.

  • I have been looking for sixty-plus runners too. I have been running/jogging since my mid-thirties; now I jog, bike, and do water aerobics ..... I just finished a sprint triathlon with my daughter and a friend and am training now for a half-marathon in September. I exercise at least six days a week ... no marathon yet but when I retire in a year, I'm hoping to set that as my goal. Are you still running?

  • Hi Carol! I am 56 and desperately want to run my first marathon this year! tried a few yrs. ago with Team in Training but injured my lower back and had to stop. now i do pilates and stretch before and after runs. any advice for us older runners doing long distances?? would love to know what you did for your 1/2 marathons and marathons that you believe helped your stamina.
    thanks!

  • Hello! I am just turning 65 and I am really looking to find an Internet friend who is of a similar age and still an avid exercisers. I am into jogging and during the summer I like to do distance biking and also hiking ..... last summer I did a sprint triathlon with a few friends and my daughter. I'm about to retire, and I am still hooked on exercise, particularly outside. What about you?

    P.S. I live in Illinois.

  • Hi, Carol R. I posted my "sixty plus and still running" a fw years ago and didn't get many responses. I am now 65, and I'm scheduled to plod through a half-marathon this weekend. I also am doing a lot of biking. You have really done a lot ....... it could be fun to get on each other's daily mile pages.

Hi there: I am just coming back to daily mile and am glad to find some simillar aged and motivated people. I had been cycling for a number of years then tried a duathlon (run/bike/run) 4 years ago and was hooked. At 64 I just complete my first "International distance" du (10k/40k/5k). Am now training for a half marathon in Nov. My original goal was 2 hours but training indicates that's not happening, maybe 2:04 (pevious pb 2:08)

Amazing times and energy. I did a half-marathon last weekend and it was quite an endurance contest. I finished it and ran all the way, but that's about the best I can say. I also love to bike relatively long distances with friends but not in a competitive way. Pretty soon I'll be the only woman over 65 in my events and will get some medals after all these years.

Congratulations on the half. I'm looking forward to next year too, when I'll be in the 65-69 class, maybe i'll be faster than some 69 year old guys, although some of them are pretty fast.
