Welcome to the Club! I'm a late entrant myself - ran my first race on my 50th birthday. Start easy, stay consistent, and you'll be addicted in no time. Get in the habit of logging your miles, it's built in incentive - no one likes to see a gap in their training record, even for a day or two.
Good luck!

Thanks Frank - yes logging miles here has been fun. I'm enjoying the encouragement and support!

The older I get, the older my concept of "middle age" becomes. It's always at least 10 years older than me. :)

Nothig like being 50 and being able to run/ride circles around your kids.My 20 and 17 year olds tell all their friends about their crazy mom doing a tri, marathon or that long bike ride. My 17 year old now wants to do the Marine Corps Marathon with me this October! Isn't life grand!

Glad to hear you are getting started. I started the year I turned 40 with biking and lost 50pounds in 2.5 months then added running to the mix and feeling great.
keep it up.

How's the running going? I'm a walker who plans on running some time this summer. At this time, I'm walking 3 miles on my lunch hour. Quit smoking 49 days ago. Needing these lungs to get into shape before I hit the track. Good Luck

Hey, I just joined yesterday. I started "runnning" 3 or 4 months ago at age 47. Harder than when I was in my 20s. It''s been slow. I had worked up to running 25 minutes nonstop. But for the last couple weeks I've been sidelined with shin splints. Went back out the other day and started slow and easy - hoping to do better on my next "run."
