i am still confused about how to read the chart

my initial test (11 pushups) put me in rank 2, so what does that even mean? since 11 is more than 10 pushups, i follow column 3, but when i was trying to straighten this out with a friend, he said that means that i start from column 3, row 2 (i.e. level 2). but it seems like i should start from the top (row 1 / level 1) in the 3rd column.

to simplify this question (is that even possible), should i be doing level 1-5 / 5 reps each time i do my pushups?

  • I have been following column 3 and doing 5 sets of push ups each time. Not sure if this is right, but it seems to work :-) So i go straight (vertically) down column 3. But if that's the case, i don't know why it would categorize you into levels 1-5 instead of just 1-3, w/ 3 being 10 push ups or more. hmmm.

  • ok I just re-read it and i think you should be in column 3 (10 or more push ups) and go vertically down the list, resting the appropriate amount of time in between. That's how i interpret the example they give on the website. that's how i've been doing it so i hope it's right! :-)

ok, i am just gonna move on to week 1 day 2, go straight down the 3rd column, 5 sets. by the way, i totally see a difference! i have been doing weight training in my total body conditioning class as well, but in yoga class yesterday, chatarungas and arm balances were a piece of cake. it ruled!!!!

Rank is just to get a sense of where you stand. You should do the entire column, no matter what rank you are. Your max push-ups is what determines which column you're in.
