Reward

posted over 3 years ago | Report

So Nate brought up a good point. How should we reward ourselves if, at the end of 6 weeks, we can do 100 push ups? I'm racking my brains and I can't think of anything more exciting than a round at the Standard Tap or dinner at North 3rd. Any thoughts?

  • ha, the first thing i thought of was a nice dinner! or we could all agree to put X amount in the pot of money, like $20 or something and winner takes all.

My original thought was around those lines, but I don't really feel like there's going to be a "winner." What if we all make it? What if we all get to 75 push-ups and are happy with that? It needs to be something we can all enjoy if we reach our goals together...

  • Here's a thought:

How about instead of rewarding a winner, we discourage failure. Each week we're all supposed to do 3 training sessions. Any week where you miss a session, you add $10 to a pool. Any session where you miss a goal, you add $5 to a pool. At the end of 6 weeks, anyone who can't do 100 push-ups adds $20 to a pool.

Then we'll all go out to dinner, and everyone splits the balance past what's in that pool of cash.

    Thoughts? Too complicated?

Yeah, duh. There isn't really a winner, especially when we all come from different physical fitness backgrounds. I like your 75 idea, we should all celebrate when we are done in 6 weeks... no penalties.

  • Agreed that there's not really a winner - hopefully we all make it. I am certainly up for any reward that involved food and drink!!! :-)

  • I like the collective food/drink self-reward - that was actually where I was going with my suggestion. Flash to a scary vision of all of us doing 100 pushups at National Mechanics on karaoke night while Chris sings "Eye of the Tiger."

I think that imagine in and of itself makes completing the 100 push ups worth it :-)
