Trail races

posted 8 months ago | Report

Hello, my name is Jeff and i am new to DM and Fit Milwaukee. I am simply looking to run, bike, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors with like minded people. Joined this group since it is close to my home base, East Troy. Didn't see too many posts for members so i thought i would give it a shot. There have been a number of trail races already but its not to late for anyone interested in running trails yet this year. Tomorrow 10/1 is Lapham Peak's Colorama 10K/5K. Sat. 10/15 UW-Parkside CC Invite 8K/5K. Sat. 10/29 Rockport Trail Run 10K/4 mi. Sat. 11/5 Bergkonig 10K/5K @ Lapham Peak. Sat. 11/19 Clear Water Outdoor's Annual Turkey Trot 10K/5K @ Big Foot St. Park. And a number of others with a longer drive time. I will be running a number of these; anyone interested in joining let me know.

  • Just got back from hiking the Bergkonig 5K course and it deserves its name (German translation : "King of the Hill!"). Anyone who's looking to add hill workouts into their training this is it! Will be going for one more hike before the race if anyone is interested.

  • One week till Bergkonig 10K/5K. The best part of this race starts about 2/3 mile in where you turn onto the Ice Age Trail & begin the ascent to the tower. For about 2/3 mile you wind your way up the hill and then climb the forty foot tower. After coming down the tower and another long flight of steps back down the other side of the hill the 10K goes up "Stairway To Heaven" while the 5K heads down "Big Slide". About a mile before the finish you have to climb "Two Tier" and after coming down the other side of that you run "Magic Carpet Ride" to the finish. This is a unique challenging course and should be a lot of fun. Anyone who has run the Trailbreaker Marathon will be familiar with the tower ascend. Hope to see you there.

  • I don't check here often so I'm late to reply. But maybe I'll see you on some of these in 2012 Jeffrey. I didn't race in 2010 or 2011 due to injuries but the comeback has started.

  • in reply to what Doug said:I don't check here often so I'm late to reply. But maybe I'll see you on some of these in 2012 Jeffrey. I didn't race in 2010 or 2011 due to injuries but the comeback has started.

Hey Doug if ever want to get out on some trails Nick M. has set up a Sat. morning 8:30 run @ Bigfoot Beach State Park. Clearwater Outdoor's will be leading the run every week. All are welcome & encouraged to attend. I've been told it will go throughout the winter. If you ever want to run some trails in the Southern Kettle Moraine, Lapham Peak, or the Ice Age Trail hit me up.

  • I'm on the other side of town unfortunatly. I've run out by Monches on occasion for fun runs. And maybe I'll run that April 20k at Lapham next year. But going out regularly to Lapham is too hard to do. Otherwise I'd try and join the Wednesday night group which you may want to look into. here is a link:

I put out an invite to you to join another group we may put together to run a team relay for the indoor marathon. I posted that in the "Wisconsin Daily Mile Athletes" group. I'm not sure we'll do it but if I get 8 interested people it could be fun to match up 2 even teams and make a day of it.

  • The Beer Runner (Tim C.) is looking for a DM trail runner for an interview. "Do you use DailyMile to research trails or connect with trail runners? I'd like to talk to you for an article."

Speading the word, time sensitive i'm sure. Keep on those trails; where's the snow already?
