Rosary on the Run

posted over 2 years ago | Report

Wow! Now that we're up to a whopping four members, I thought I'd start a discussion, and hopefully get some fodder for an upcoming blog post. Any of you have any experience praying the rosary on a run? If so, how has that worked for you?

God bless,
Chris

  • I have done the Our Father multiple times, but not the rosary. I'll try it next weekend.

Gotta admit to not even trying. I know how I get when I run. I tend to ignore everything except for the absolute needs like cars and pothole but I've run right past my mother, future wife and others and not even seen them. For me it's mostly just listen and pay attention to see if God has anything for me to hear. He always does its just whether I can hear it. ;-)

  • so glad I found this site. I use a rosary bracelet to count laps at my local YMCA. The 12 knoted beads= 1 mile. I know I get weird looks, but who cares!

  • I've attempted the rosary by myself a number of times while running. I find I lose track of my place in the prayers, let alone the count. I do have Gretchen Harris' Rosary on mp3, and I can run to that to help me. I find the Jesus Prayer works better when I don't have the digital help.

  • hmm...what a lovely idea to take Our Lady along on a run with me.
to any other new runners who may be out there (or seasoned pros with insight to share) what do you think about using the rosary to pace yourself? like...warm up to the creed, first three hail mary's, and glory be; run the first decade, walk the next, etc. and then cool down to the hail holy queen and whatever other random prayers you want to add on to the end of it?

I have tried to pray the rosary on my bike with a small pocket rosary wrapped around my handlebars, but it was a very dangerous proposition. That didn't last. I'll give it a shot while running, but am pretty sure I don't have the coordination to do so with beads or without.

I'll surely incorporate Michelle's idea of warming up and cooling down with prayers.

  • Hmm I probably won't pray the Rosary but I will try to do a Hail Mary every couple of miles to see if I can and slow doen a bit to catch my breath if I can't.
    Nice to see this group.

  • I haven't ran in 2 years without praying the rosary. I always pray the mysteries for the day and sometimes on long runs I pray all four sets of mysteries. Sometimes I use a rosary ring and sometimes I use the rosary God put on the end of my arms :). Because of the long time of isolation that running provides it goes very well with praying for me.
