Week Two:
I had a lot of laundry this week which includes two flights of stairs up and down many times. Also I when I prepared for a Trail Race I made several trips up and down to get all the special running supplies (extra credit warm-up). And of course I come down stairs only to realize I forgot my watch (or something) and make another trip.

I am a runner and this week I decided to start training on grass so I went to my local Grammar School and ran the field. This field also has two sets of stairs with 20 and 25 steps each albeit low rise I added the steps to my run. Trying to power up the stairs in the humidity is a challenge then I catch a breath and quickly go down the stairs and run to the next set of stairs. Once that is done I then run 1/3 mile around the field and repeat. I managed 5 sets of stairs for a total of 450 steps and a total of 4.0 miles of running. Below is the list of house steps for the week.

This was an interesting week. On Friday I went to the basement to collect some things for charity and I made 40 flights of stairs in one day. Whew! That does not count the several half flights as I was carrying things part way.

The news of this week is that I hurt a tendon in my Butt and I am not able to run and therefore I have been resting a lot around the house. Even with this I still need to do things on different levels of my home and I managed to get 57 flights this week.

You would think your weekly lifestyle would have you doing the same number of stairs each week but that is not the case. Keeping this log has proven very interesting.

That's some awesome stair work Glenn! I completely agree, it's hard to keep it consistent. But I love the challenge of adding in the stair work to my routine!

WOW -- I just checked out your entries...amazing stair steppin!! Interesting how it does vary from week to week...I should try counting my steps at home and see how it changes. I could being adding more steps to the day that I never thought of before. AND maybe close the gap between our totals!
Keep up the great work Glenn!!

I am improving after my injury “step by step” ;-) this week I have less pain than before. On Sunday I was able to get 6 flights of stairs at the Grammar School field for 540 more steps mixed with a mile run (after a 4.25 mile run on grass). I am still a little slow on ‘running’ up the stairs and with the humidity I could only walk down but I know I will do better next time.

Great steps for last week! And, I loved your post from Sunday's workout...that was amazing after a 4+ mile run.
I need to step it up and try to catch up with you, Alicyn & Norah. Today is meeting day, so I take the 6 flights of stairs twice...maybe an extra trip up & down if I have the time left.

This was a better week -- the numbers are back toward average. You can tell the days when I am away from the house for a long time (very low step count). My speed has been affected because of my right leg issue but that is on the mend. Yippe. I did do two flights carring a 35lb. box in front of me -- Phew!

This is an interesting week for me. My running is way off because of an injury but I did get access to a gym and the equipment. I was able to use the Stairmill twice: Wed=19 Floors, Fri=25 Floors. I was not able to verify how many steps equals a floor so I guess it is the same as my house (13). I also took a trip to visit my brother so I counted the steps at his place. Here are the numbers for this week.
Mon Aug 23 416
Tue Aug 24 156
Wed Aug 25 260 + 19 Stairmill Flights (247) aprox
Thu Aug 26 130
Fri Aug 27 130 + 25 Stairmill Flights (325) aprox
Sat Aug 28 0 . . . . + steps on trip (108) aprox

Stair Fitness Club Challenge has come to an end and I would like to thank Norah for creating a great summer event. I have made new friends, learned about myself and found new ways to improve my life. At the beginning of this challenge I thought 5000 steps was a reasonable goal and yet I managed to far surpass that number – thanks in part to my fellow club members. I look forward to the 2011 challenge and I am counting the days.
And now for the stats of my last challenge week:
