Welcome and introductions!

Wow, 20 members and counting! I started this group a few months ago, and it was just 3 of us hanging out, wondering what to do with a group :-)

How about some introductions? Where do you live, what do you do, what kind of running do you do, and where do you run?

I live on the UWS in the low 100's and work for a digital media agency in midtown. I've been in NY since about 1998, but lived in Nyack for a couple of years somewhere in there. I've been running on and off most of my life, but never competitively. I always used running to either supplement other sports or for general fitness. I'm now thinking about trying to run some 5Ks this year. My goal is to do 5K in under 25 minutes. I usually run in Central Park, on the treadmill, and occasionally in Riverside Park.

  • Hi - just recently discovered this site and figured I'd give it a whirl...

I live on 14th St, east side, and run a lot up and down East River Park (and down the East River), and on the far east side (1st Ave / Ave A) between 38th St and all the way down to the FDR.

Been running in NY since 1994ish. I've run 6 NY Marathons and 3 others, but have never broken 4:30. That is my goal, and I'm gonna have another go at it on Feb 15 in Austin. Also took up biking last year and signed up for the New York City Triathlon this year!

  • Hi - I actually just moved out to long island but I've always been a city girl and the prospect of trying to find somewhere in LI other than my immediate neighborhood to run in is terrifying. I go to NYSC downtown (Wall St or Battery Park City) now because I'm way too wimpy to run outside, but when it's nice out in the spring/fall I run in BP either before work or after work. As you probably can figure out, I work in the financial services industry which has seriously crazy hours sometimes so while I would like to run more, I'm pretty much on a 30 minute run and cooldown in the AM. For now that's about 2.5 miles comfortably but once I can better manage my pace, hopefully I can squeeze more mileage in that time constraint.

I'd like to try a 5k and finish under 30 minutes.

  • I live on the UES/Midtown East border and work as a psychologist in the Bronx. I ran track in middle school and briefly in high school, but I was a sprinter. Didn't do much running in college or grad school, but then watched my older brother run the ING NYC Marathon a couple of years ago. I was inspired and joined NYRR. Other than a few injuries unrelated to running, I haven't looked back since. I have guaranteed entry into this year's marathon and am looking forward to running with my brother.

I normally run in Central Park. Lower loop for short runs and the entire loop for longer runs. I run along the East River from 63rd to 96th and back sometimes when I'm in the mood for stairs. I'm moving to either the East Village or Hells Kitchen in a couple of months, so I'll probably have to find a new favorite spot. I'll miss living so close to the park!
