Wetsuit Question

posted almost 3 years ago | Report

I am thinking of buying my first wetsuit. should I get sleeveless or full sleeves. What are the benifits of both? I will be using it for a Sprint Tri and maybe a longer tri in the future. Any ideas or thoughts?

  • iT depends on where you'll be using it. I have a full sleeved wetsuit which was perfect for the tri I did in Washington, DC (The Potomac River is COLD!) but now that most of the tris I'll be doing are going to be in TX, I wish I had a sleeveless. I get hot very easily & you also have greater range of motion in your arms with a sleeveless. Some people have a problem with chafing in their arms with the full sleeve. I didn't, but could see where it could definitely happen. I think you may have better buoyancy with the sleeves.

  • I will probably just use it here in TX. I don't know if I will be traveling far for a Tri anytime soon. I think the sleeveless are alittle cheaper too. Thanks for your feedback!

  • Go with a John sleeve (tank top style) and full legs. It is perfect for use in cooler water because it keeps your legs covered and compressed, but still works in swims that just barely qualify for wetsuit use. (like most of the austin tri's!)

  • Long sleeves are faster...proven fact! That was all I needed to know when I bought mine :-)
