Challenge 7. Week of 9/22 - 9/28

posted over 3 years ago | Report

This week's challenge is all about sharing our passion with others. The first run I did after sports in high school was when Kelly dragged me along for one in college. I may never have gotten into running if I didn't have someone to introduce me to it.

Find a friend that doesn't normally work out and bring them along on a run, a ride, to the pool, or to the gym. If you can snap a photo of them while they're in the act or after they're done (hopefully with a big smile across their face), post it here.

Let's see how many new people we can bring into our sports!

  • i've been MIA for a minute. but i think this is a great challenge. looks like i'm a little late though. did no-one participate? i always try to encourage my friends and family, and sometimes strangers to share my passion of running and being healthy in general. spread the word!

  • This is probably the hardest challenge yet! I should have gotten a pic of my wife running a few weeks ago when she started.

  • I think this may be more than a week-long challenge. What I'd really be interested in hearing is how (if at all) have you managed to get through to friends and helped them to get more active.

One of my "successes" happened recently where a girlfriend who "hated running" (her words) has now decided to run. The lightbulb moment for her was when I told her that I don't enjoy every single run. I was stunned! It had never occurred to me to tell her this, and she had always assumed that every single runner loves every single minute of running. I told her that for me, I love how much I can eat, I love how my clothes fit, I love how running clears my head and calms my spirit, and sometimes I love the actual process of running. But not always.

Would love to hear other DMers thoughts on this!

I would say perfect reverse psychology! J/k I still hate most runs, I don't think I will ever really "like" it.

That's ok, as long as you like the BENEFITS you get from it enough! And never say never -- you could come to LOVE IT, you know!

  • i would never have thought to mention that either, but that actually kept me away in the beginning as well at least subconsiously...very interesting, but now i really enjoy a couple of my runs a week for the actual running but like you said i get something i enjoy be it the thoughts i get worked out, the feeling after, or how much i can eat out of every day that i run

  • I had a previously completely inactive friend walk w/ me 2x this week, and we have a Wii fit date planned for next week, she even went to the gym this week on her own. I am so proud of her... hopefully she'll be a dailymile member before long!

  • This is a little late, but what the heck. I wanted to say that dailymile introduced me to running; I had never run before. I did the Couch to 5K program which put me in to the league of the runners (just barely), but I have since gotten 4-5 people into running through that program. No, I don't have their pictures, but no one's looking now.
