Long Run Stories...+

Gives us one of your most favorite long run stories, or your most recent long run story if you want to.

  • Earlier this year on Wednesday - February 4, 2009 I had plans to run 10-miles easy on the Virginia Creeper Trail near our home. That Tuesday night just before my goal 10-miler it came a good snow, and later the temperature dropped to under 20/degrees. But to not be out done I thought I would run it anyway.

So I started on my journey to only run 10-miles. As time went on I kept thinking I might go out 6-miles instead and run 12-miles. Certainly with the weather I would't have anything else to do when I got home, lol. ( =

After I got to 5-miles out a small still voice began to speak to me about running a 20-miler. I replied to myself = Are You Crazy Man? Finally I got close to 6-miles and the idea of a longer run was still burning inside of me. So I thought, okay dude, I'll go 1 more mile and end up with 14-miles today.

Soon I started (Praying to God), and as time went on I felt the urge to really trust God. But God I thought, I haven't ran a long run since me & Nick finished our fastest 20-miler in December of 2004. God replied back, but with me all things are possible. What have you got to loose if you have to walk some. Plus the weather never really crossed my mind that certain day. I truly believe God sent me there that day to prove to me once again (All Things Are Possible With God). After I got to 7-miles on the trail and with the fires still burning inside knowing God was with me I decided to go for it.

Later that day with a time of 3:02.41 which comes out (9.08) mile pace I crossed the finish line with my first 20-mile long run in over 4/years. Wow! I thought with one of the biggest smiles this face could offer to anyone that could have seen it. Thank You God, and as long as I live, (Heavenly Father), I'll never forget this moment. Today looking back it still amazes me, because on barely any running at all since 2004-2005 I did something once again that I've always loved to do which is to run long.... ( =
