time to throw them away and get new ones, i guess

  • I've heard that putting wadded newspaper inside the shoes helps them dry fast.

  • I'm going to try this technique tonight. It only rained for a very short time during my run today but I think the wet ground and the humidity created such wet conditions that my shoes are absolutely soaked! Not running again until Tuesday but if I can find some way to dry them asap that would be good!

  • I've heard about the newspaper trick too. Also removing the insoles, if they're soaked throughout, and letting the shoes and the insoles dry separately might help.

  • I went for an early morning run last August and noticed, about six miles from home, the sky to the north was not getting any lighter. In fact, it was quite dark. A huge storm swooped overhead and proceeded to drench me with rain for a good half hour.

At one point I thought I was as wet as I could get. Then I started hearing squishing sounds from *inside* my shoes. They had finally soaked through and filled with water, like little buckets.

Once home, I removed the insoles, and put them in my gas dryer on the "sweater" rack at low temperature. They dried out nicely. Fortunately I had two pairs of shoes, I like to alternate them so they both last longer.

  • The news paper trick is for sure the easiest way to dry out a shoe. I have been using that technique since high school, some one on my x-c team read it in Runners World. The uppers never quite feel the same again however I think that is just the nature of rain running in general.

  • Newspaper stuffed inside the shoes works like a charm! Nice and dry and odorless the next day.
