Winter running

What are your plans for the winter?

Run in the snow?
Run on the treadmill?
Take the winter off?
Maintenance Miles?

  • I can't wait to run in the snow! I'll do at least 2 work-outs in the snow/wk, but if it gets really dicey I'll use the treadmill. The treadmill is not nearly as fun though! Core training will be a 2/3 day a week commitment as well.

  • I ran in the snow once last year. Any tips on keeping your lungs from burning?

  • I sometimes wear a bandana (or scarf or whatever) over my mouth and nose to keep them warm and keep the intake a little more warm as well. Other than that, I suck it up. After a run or two, I get used to it. Bitter cold (below 0) is another story.

  • I agree the treadmill is not nearly as much fun. For me, it is about running in the dark. I've had to many close calls with cars in the dark. I wear a reflective vest and run the sidewalks along major streets, but still have issues. So I think I'll spend most of the winter inside. Long runs will be on the trails (I hope).
