Resources and Tools

What are some of your favorite Web resources and tools for running?

  • I just got Run Keeper for my new iPhone (now that I have GPS). I tried it out on a drive to the grocery store and so far it looks pretty nice. It will speak cues to you while you are running, telling you distance travelled and time. It did a good job calculating my speed while I drove 70mph. I'll let everyone know how it does on my next run.

  • I've been using the free version for several months. Run Keeper itself is pretty good. A couple releases ago, it was pretty buggy, but they worked all that out.

The GPS on the iPhone, however, is not as good as I would like. I run in Chicago and it is consistently inaccurate. I know large cities and forested areas can be problematic for GPS systems. This may account for most of it.

It seems to be accurate when I run in the burbs.

  • Not exactly a Web resources, but I love my Garmin Forerunner. Probably wouldn't work well in Chicago, though. I had some problems with it in New York until I was settled in Central Park.

What model do you have? How do you like it?

I have had my eye on the Garmin line for a couple years. Keep thinking about it, but haven't pulled the trigger.
