A banana is a must! I like it fruity more than anything else and so I always include a variety of fruits. Depending on my taste buds I might add fresh ginger and/or green cardamom, and
sometimes I like my smoothies mixed in with cooked yam, pumpkin or sweet potato. yuM!posted about 2 years ago | Report

WOW I hit the spot light :)))
Some interesting ingredients there Norah, I especially like the sweet potato, that will be an addition next batch :). Along with what you see in my pic today I added a big chunk of pineapple and a half cup of OJ.

I'm a gastric bypass post-op. I'm exactly 3 months out today so my smoothies mostly consist of Mootopia, a lactose free protein enriched "milk", and low carb, low fat protein powder. Lately, I've been making 2 scoops of Bariatric Advantage vanilla protein powder, 1 teaspoon of Sanka and 4 oz of crushed ice in 8 oz of Mootopia. Tastes like a Starbucks frappaccino.

There are some cool ideas here. Usually, I don't like sweet potato much, but I might try a bit in a smoothie. My mom loves sweet potato so I'm sure she'd love it. I'll also think about adding a bit of coffee. So far I've only made banana smoothies. (I can't stand the mixture of milk with most fruits.) I use a banana, vanilla whey protein powder and 1% milk or vanilla soy milk.

These are all great ideas. I don't really make smoothies. But now I may have too! I really like the yam, pumpkin, or sweet potato ideas. I do need to go buy a new blender. Great ideas and thanks for sharing.

Ever since I started making these five days ago I have bypassed lunch, not by choice but cuz I am full, these things are a meal in themselves. Tomorrow in goes the sweet potato Norah just picked some up :)

I agree! Whenever I make smoothies it takes me about 2-3 days to finish them up because I get so full, so quick. Keep us posted on more :) and enjoy the sweet potato.

I just found out about "green smoothies" and have been making them all week. In a blender, I stuff a couple handfuls of greens (spinach leaves, romaine lettuce leaves, kale, etc.) and add a cup or so of water. When that is green juice, I add another handful or two and repeat. Then, to the green juice I start adding fruits to make it taste good: frozen banana is my favorite, but any frozen fruit would be good. I also add a few spoonfuls of OJ concentrate for flavor.
It's a bright, neon green but it tastes surprisingly good... and I get lots of raw greens, which I never eat enough of.

A little different twist today for the main, frozen peaches then honey, banana, nonfat vanilla yogurt, OJ, sweet baby carrots. Nice change with the peaches.
