Things went well for this meet. The first meet of the season on our home course, which, in my opinion, is one of the hardest XC courses out there. The hills aren't rolling, they're mountains. Two big ones with gradual inclines throughout.
Varsity started with a great cheer to pump themselves up, man it was awesome hearing that. It si9gnalled the season was open and ready to get running (yes, pun was intended). We got out to a great start and at the 2K mark we started losing our #2 runner to asthma due to the heavily wooded area on the 2nd half. She pulled out at the 2 mile mark which meant everyone else had to step it up and they did. Some didn't have the race they wanted, but as Marissa said, it's the first meet and not state. We have our work cut out for us in City High, but what's life without a challenge right? We got 3rd, almost same results as last year. Naperville North was 1st, City High 2nd.
FS was great! They warmed up on their own and had a great 1st race for most of them. Again, not everyone will run great at the same meet, so some were disappointed. Summer training really showed in this race but PR's all over, since it was the first race ever for most. Wound up 5th this race. Lots of growing left for this group before MAC.
JV- my group. These girls rock and responded with outstanding kicks and PR's. Some dropped over a minute on their PR! Holy cow!! JV, as we said in high school, is the backbone of the XC team and they showed it. I'm proud of this group because in Iowa, JV usually don't receive medals or any accolades. I'm glad they ran their hearts out on a tough course.
Cedar Rapids up next!!!
