Just Curious about Duct Tape

posted over 1 year ago | Report

This may seem like a funny question, but I was wondering if any of the barefoot runners tried using duct tape on the bottoms of their feet instead of VFFs or other minimalist shoes. Just askin'... : )

  • Sounds interesting but wouldn't that make your feet a bit slippery?

  • LOL what a great idea. The cost of "barefoot running shoes" is ridiculous. I agree it would be a bit slippery and probably not allow full movement either. Perhaps you could score it a bit? I think 1 layer would be just enough protection and not be too slippery.

  • i prefer barefoot. duct tape seems like a bad idea, who knows what kinds of chemicals are in the glue, which your body will absorb thru the skin.

  • I've heard a similar case, but with an electrical tape. Since I've never used a duct tape before, not sure how slippery it is.

The story itself is written in Traditional Chinese, so I'll give a summary followed by the blog link itself. (Google Translate may help you a little)

The man is called barefoot A-Chu, living in Taiwan (me too). He started his first barefoot marathon, but failed (put on his Crocs shoes) at 32KM due to worn-down bled heel. Then he started to look for ways to protect the feet but remain barefooted. Finally he enjoyed and finished another barefoot full marathon with an electrical tape under the feet. He's really enjoyable when crossing the finish line.

  • I tried duct-tape last winter because of some blisters I had. My feet are pretty callous-y so it wouldn't ever stay put. What did work, was some faux-suede fabric and super glue. It actually stayed put for about a week, which gave the blister under it plenty of time to heal and allowed me to run comfortably the whole time.
