How do you attach race timing chips?

  • I use an ankle strap like the following. I've used it with both the old style timing chips, and the disposable chips.

  • I like hair ties. If my wife does not have one handy I can always find someone who can hook me up with one at the last minute.

  • I use the RoadID ankle strap. Used it with both returnable chips and disposable.

  • At my last race the chip people had a giant bucket of neoprene ankle straps that they let you borrow for the race. Others used them to, to not have to deal with laces and getting the chip untangled.

  • Last year I lost my d tag in the Marine Corps Marathon - I had looped it through the adjusting cord on the baCK of my VFF Classic - a couple weeks ago, in the Lake Placid Half Marathon, I used a "the band" velcro strap over the top of my foot and under the arch. This worked very well.
