Five-Fingers Flow - warm enough?

posted 4 months ago | Report

I run in five-fingers komodo sport and Im (hopefully) trying to train for a marathon. Problem is that I can't run more than an hour without losing all feeling in my toes in cold weather. I tried switching back to my regular runners but Im developing hip pain on my left side and knee pain on my right.

Vibram says their "Flow" model is insulated with neoprene and keeps your toes warm in cold weather. Has anyone compared whether they are actually warmer, and are they warm enough for near-zero (celcius) temps? Which is better - getting toe socks for my vibrams or investing in the Flows?

  • I guess this is kinda late answer, but I ran last winter in Bikilas with socks. Didn't think there was a problem at freezing point but never ran for hours either. I bet you bundled up really well, but just my penny worth, areas with arteries close to skin must be REALLY well insulated (head, neck wrists and hands, ankles) and that makes a hell of a difference in the cold, as opposed to wearing more layers or thicker clothes. Hat, gloves, airtight hood, tall turtlenecks and ankle warmers made it possible for me to run barefoot in the snow and feel comfy. So your body can feel safe and focus on heating up those white toes.
