Hey there - have you heard the rule Nothing New on Race Day? I'd stick to that - if you haven't trained with it, don't start using it on race day.
That said, I really like the Gu brand and PowerBar gels.

Thanks, I was a little on the fence about it. I think I'll hold off this time and work them into my routine for my next race.

Jamie, Have you heard of Enlyten Electrolyte Strips! Enlyten Electrolytes Strips are not some fancy, sugary electrolyte gel, mix, bean or drink. Enlyten Electrolyte Strips is a new health product that’s a dissolvable thin strip placed in the cheek between the teeth and gums. The Duke Sports Science Lab, also known as the "Coach K" Lab did the testing on the Enlyten products.
Several top amateur and professional athletes and teams are now using Enlyten Electrolyte Strips. Like to try some samples?posted over 2 years ago | Report

You have peeked my curiosity. Where would I find theses strips?

I’ve tried a bunch (hammer, GU, power bar), and I as far as all I can tell, they are pretty similar. My favorite is the Cliff gel because it has a plastic strip attaching the top tab to the rest of the package so you don’t have to deal with trying to put that tiny piece of plastic back into your pocket without dropping it or having it fall out (I hate littering). This is especially helpful on a bike while dealing with the wind rushing by your face. Some flavors are caffeinated and I don’t like that, but the non caffeinated flavors I’ve tried are good.

Thanks Kevin,
I have been wondering if there was something better than pulling that little tab off. I'll have to give the Cliff gels a try. I also agree with you on the caffeniated gels. I've tried 3 different brands of gels, and the sport beans, and I can do without the caffeine. Thanks again!

I really like Honey Stingers. I switch them up with GU. The Stingers are just easier to sip down and provide the energy you need.

Nothing New on Race Day!
I find gels too expensive. I just can't dealt with that. Same with sports drinks. I can get fresh coconut water so I use that as sport drink. Instead of gels I have been trying different organic fruit jelly beans. The ingredients and nutritional makeup are very similar to Gu but abou 25% of the price. They work very well for me.posted 10 months ago | Report
