What do you use to track your distance and pace?

I'm using Nike+ with my iPod, but I'm looking at something more accurate. Maybe a Garmin or Polar? Anyone have a recommendation?

  • I have the NikePlus system.

  • Nothing as sophisticated as you! Peet (my husband) follows me on the bike and measures my routes for me. His new bike has a 'Cateye' and the mountain bike has something similar. And for time, I use one of those old fashioned things called a watch with stop watch functionality! ;-) I have often measured my routes with a piece of paper and ruler on a map which shows scale.

  • Shane, I use a Polar RS200 with footpod. Perfect for measuring things like heartbeat, condition etc, but due to the fact that the pod is attached to the shoe and measures by movement it is not 100% correct. Today I did 10,87 kms and it measured 10,65. I see many running trainers with the Navman R300 Running Van. Price around $ 109

  • I use a Garmin GPS watch. Many people who use them will tell you its hard to go back to anything else. You need to keep the charge high on the lithium battery, it helps the performance in tracking satellite position. No issue around trees, etc..it will sometimes lose signal under low overpasses, but quickly finds the signal again after you exit. I have the older 205 model, but the newer ones are much more "wrist friendly". They are an investment, $300.0+. I like it because I can leave the front door for my run and go whichever way I feel knowing I can track my distance. Never leave home without it..

  • I use Nike+. My husband bought it for my last year at Christmas and it has really helped motivate me to keep logging the kms!

  • For those who don't want to spend lots of money to get started, a simple way is to measure your time with a watch, and to use the "gmaps pedometer" website for distance:

    http://www.trails.com/googlemap.aspx

You can zoom in to your local area, and then click on the map to retrace your route and it will give a pretty good estimate of the km/miles you covered.
