I am so excited!! I am travelling and running with my good friend Cheli who is a cancer survivor. She recently got over pneumonia though and is worried about her pace. I have told her I would stick by her though, even though she keeps telling me that I need to run ahead of her and run my normal pace. I have not been on a girl trip since my early 20's and I will be 35 this year. I am travelling from Burlington, NC and we will be staying at the Port Orleans. We are trying to figure out what to do that Sunday night. We will want to celebrate and may just hit Epcot. I can not wait to see Mickey, even though I just saw him last New Years when I was there with my family. I cry every time I see him because he brings out the big kid in me.

Hi Jolene! Glad you're excited to be seeing Mickey (again!), and congrats on turning 35 this year... a BIG birthday! :-) I live here in Orlando, so we won't be staying on property, but may be getting a group together for pasta late Saturday afternoon (pre-race). I won't be able to walk by Sunday night... ha ha! Being an over-40 runner takes a toll on this body!
To answer your questions: I'm excited but very nervous(!!). This is my first Half, and have been working on extending my long runs each Sunday, in preparation. Nervous!! I will be meeting up with blogging/running friends coming in from all over the U.S. Since I'm a turtle runner, I fully expect to run alone (I'm definitely a back of the pack runner... about a 13:00 pace). Hubby will be on hand to be my cheerleader. :-)
Looking forward to meeting you and Cheli. Sounds like a tough lady... running a Half after being so sick and a survivor...wow!
Feel free to find me at my blog: www.runningcirclesaroundtheturtles.com or by e-mail: TRTL.RNR@gmail.com
hugs from orlando,

Well, we may be back there with you Robin because I intend on staying with my friend if she runs. If she does not run I may go a bit faster. This is my first half since before kids though. So my first half in 8 years, so I am just going to run and have fun. I figure it is best to go into it with a non-competitive attitude and just do the best I can. My friend would really like to do it though, so she may fast walk depending on how she is feeling by then. I told her either way I would finish it and give my medal to her. She is a tough lady and a dear friend.
You do not look 40 in your profile picture!! WOW!! Good for you on doing your first half. I bet living in Orlando gives you lots of stuff to do.

Ha, I'm not getting excited, I've been excited for months! It's the only thing keeping me going through the Chicago winter ;)
Jolene, it sounds like its going to be a very meaningful and emotional time for you and your friend. From the looks of your training runs, it's obvious that you would be able to rock this thing, but it's really sweet that you are sticking back with your friend... she is such a trooper to do this with everything that she has been through and I'm sure it will be a huge accomplishment for her. It will be worth it to share it with her!
Robin -- I took a peek at your blog and you sound like so much fun. We're going to be on the disney dining plan while we're there, so we are complete prisoners to all things disney ;) I'm not double paying for food! I heard that the hotel I'm at has a pasta bar, or I remember from our last trip there that there are some really good pasta dishes at Wolfgang puck's cafe in dtd and that's a counter service credit... so I will be carb loading at one of those establishments on Saturday afternoon!

I'm super excited! This is a family trip - in that my parents and siblings are coming. I'm excited about that - I'm 29 and live halfway across the country from the rest of my family, but they found out about the race and got excited, so I'll have a cheering section. I'm running with a friend from college. I'm the more experienced runner, but she just did the Disney Half-Marathon in January, so she's the more experienced racer when it comes to Disney. We're planning to just run and have a good time, stop for pics, and not worry about finishing times. Should be fun!
I'm coming from the DC area (love your pic, Jolene!). That means we've had stupid snow everywhere. My past two long runs were on the treadmill, and I'm waiting for breakfast to settle before heading to the gym for a 9 miler on the treadmill. I think I'm going to wear my potential race outfit today, see how it feels! My normal running path was used for cross country skiing this past weekend! Crazy!

Megan you have got a lot of snow!! I live in North Carolina and have seen and heard how much snow your city has gotten!! I love your city though. I am Canadian and that picture was from my first trip ever to Washington last year. My husband is American and he had not been there before either. It made me want to move there because seeing all of the runners outside was inspiring. I do not see that as much in my city.

Jolene,
I do hope we get to meet up and exchange hugs before the race, either Saturday afternoon (dinner) or Sunday morning. I'll be wearing my customary customized race day shirt (w/ Turtles blog name on back & fun message on front) and hope to have a sign. Say hi if you see us! :-) And let us know about Sat dinner, if interested. There are about 6 or so meeting around 4:00.
HUGS!
P.S. ~ Trust me, I def look my 43 yrs, especially on race day sans make-up! Ha Ha! But thank you.

Maryjo,
I LOVE Chicago, but I know you guys have had such a brutal winter this year... it's been an extended cold here, too. You get on the elevator and people are just griping about it. I think to myself, "Could be sooooo much worse!" :-)
Anyway, glad your family will take advantage of the WDW dining plan; smart way to go, for sure. And yes, Wolf's is good, too. Hope we'll at least see each other maybe Sunday morning, and if not, let's exchange pics on DM once we're all home. I hope you guys have a magical time while here. It's such a special place, especially for the kids.
Thanks for visiting the Turtles blog. :-) Will have a t-shirt on that day, so if you see me, I hope you'll say 'hi!' Always fun to meet new friends.
HUGS!

Megan,
I also LOVE DC. Hubby and I were there a few yrs ago, and keep talk about visiting again. I'd love to run a few of the upcoming races there. Sounds like you guys have a great plan worked out, and how exciting to have a cheering section!! I live here and won't even have that (other than my awesome Hubs!). I feel guilty asking anyone to come out SO early and then stand around and WAIT for me forever (turtle runner, here!), so it's kind of a bummer in that sense. But glad for you! What a great trip you guys will have! Welcome to (all) join us for dinner Sat afternoon... just e-mail me (in previous message).
Hope to see you in Disney! Will be wearing a Turtles blog race shirt. :-)
