Boston or Bust!!

The Holy Grail

I didnt think I would ever be able to make a run on qualifying for this race. However my training has been such that I believe I will try and qualify in October at the Grand rapids marathon, I must run it in under 3 hrs 10 mins. I just decided this as i am typing now.

Here we come Boston!

  • Go for it, Daniel! It sounds like you've worked hard for this - just keep up the good work, kick butt in Grand Rapids, and enjoy the ride!

  • I'm making an attempt in either Hartford in October or Manchester (NH) in November - need a 3:15:59, which is about 20 minutes under my marathon PR. Good luck to all!

  • I'll be attempting a BQ in October at the MCM, a crowded race. I too need a 3:15:59 or better to BQ for 2010. But, I think a 3:20:59 or better would get me into Boston 2011, based on their qualifying window (~18 mos.). Maybe. In any case, both times will be a challenge. My recent PR is a 3:25:20 on a course with 2nd half hills and rain throughout. Got to train harder.

  • My first marathon will be Long Beach, CA - I don't have a finish time goal, just looking to finish. =) Following that I will continue training to qualify for Boston.

Good luck to you all! =)

  • The Bay State Marathon in Lowell, MA is a VERY flat marathon (October 18th, 2009). 1/2 the people who ran it last year qualified for Boston. Just a thought for those trying to qualify for the first time. It will also be my FIRST marathon. If you go to their website they have a 'coach' you can sign up for as well (if it's not already full). Mine happens to be Nate Jenkins which I am VERY excited about! http://www.baystatemarathon.com/

    Good luck to all !!!

  • I would love to qualify for Boston this year, but I would be content with getting closer. The LA Marathon was my 1st marathon earlier this year, I ran 3:39 (was shooting for 3:30 but hit the wall at mile 22. I don't feel like I trained well enough for that one so I know I can do better!

I need a 3:10 to qualify for Boston which is roughly a 7:15 Pace. I really hate to push for too much too soon though. My next Marathon is November 15th. If I could run anywhere between 3:20 - 3:15 then I can really focus on attempting a Boston Qualifier.
