posted over 2 years ago | Report

Hi All,

I'm new to night running and am looking for a recomendation on entry level headlamps.

Thanks,
Kevin

  • Target has great head lights that go on your hat or with out. I think $15 at most. The one's that clip on the hat are not as bright. I really like the ones you wear on head they are brighter.

  • Hi this is my first post and I do not want to be too bold, but if you are planning on running on the trails in the dark and will do so often, I think putting some money into a good headlamp if totally worth while. I have had Peltz and Black Diamond LED lamps that lasted for a couple of years but the best investment I made was in a Nite Rider lamp 6 years ago. (http://www.niterider.com) They make head lamps mostly for cyclist, rescue workers and divers and the quality is great and custom support has been great when I ordered a new bulb and when the mount broke they sent me a new one free. The rechargeable battery pack in encased in plastic so there is no problems with rusting and I have a long cord so I carry the batter pack on my belt. I still have the original battery and the initial high cost has been made up in the years of use I have gotten out of it. My particular lamp is not made anymore, but if it eventually breaks and cannot be repaired I would get another without a second thought. Hope you enjoy night trail running, but it way more fun when you have a really bright lamp so you can fly!

  • Hi Kevin,
As being AdventureRacer, I could warmly advice you the BlackDiamond 'Spot'. Whole lotta light for a little lamp. You can switch between a penetrating bundle (single powerful LED) or spreadlight, for depth and map-reading.
Batteries last at least 8hrs of strong beam.
Good thing: It's an affordable tool.
    Good luck and fun,
    Elwin.

  • I googled this topic and found this page: http://www.fitness4sports.com/running-headlamp.html which suggests the Princeton Tec Quad.
