Best "warm up" exercises

posted almost 3 years ago | Report

Hi all!
I am a newly converted am runner (or, slowly getting there) but I have noticed an issues, I am so stiff in the am, that my first two miles or so are almost like torture.

What do you do in the morning to help warm your legs up? Jumping jacks? Squats? Kicks!? Light jog?

Appreciate any suggestions :)

  • I walk up the ramp then stretch for about 5-6 min. All different kinds of stretches. I even try to stretch my back a bit. I also find the walk to the boards helpful to help with the stiffness!

  • Being in the Marine Corps we do almost all our running in the morning. We do a 5 minute warm up jog, then a lot of dynamic warm ups: Butt kicks, Inch Worms, Monster walk, Frankenstein Walk...if you would like to know how to do any of these let me know i will explain in greater detail.
