Hawaii Runners

Welcome!

Hi there! Thanks for joining the group! I took the liberty of creating this group as a way to provide a place where all of us who run in paradise can gather. Hopefully as time goes on and more people hear about dailymile, this group will grow.

I think it'd be a great idea, by way of introduction, for us all to tell each other a little bit about ourselves. Like, how long we've been running, and what we like best about dailymile.

I'll start...

I've been running regularly for over 10 years now, not fast by any stretch of the imagination, but dedicated enough to have done the Honolulu Marathon 9 times and the Great Aloha Run 10 times (11 this February, barring any injuries...knock on wood...)

I was introduced to dailymile by a co-worker (who unfortunately isn't very active here). Keeping track of my training here has really helped motivate me to do better (or, as I get older, to slow the progressive slowing-down...LOL). I know the leaderboard feature has been keeping me going...I feel the need to keep up and not fall too far behind. :)

Anyway, if you know anyone else from Hawaii on dailymile, feel free to invite them to join. The more the merrier.

Who's next? :)

Hello, I haven't really been running regularly for too long... about a year. I got interested cause I decided to try the Great Aloha Run and their running clinic was really helpful. Completing the GAR made me feel confident enough to keep running.

I did the Niketown 30K and found out I'm a supinator because I got a bone bruise on the bottom of my foot and went to a podiatrist. She sold me chokest-expensive orthotics which I haven't broken in enough to run with yet.. but hopefully they prevent stuff like the bone bruise over the really long distances.

I attempted the Honolulu Marathon for the first time last year, but didn't finish. I stopped at Kahala Mall after the 10-mile mark and decided I wasn't up to it. Hopefully this year is different!

I like dailymile because it creates a friendly and highly motivational community. The vibe is very positive and helpful. Really cool. I love reading what people are doing, advice, pictures of their workout stuff, all of it. The leaderboard is cool and like Keith, feel that it motivates me. I also like that I can check out Caroline D.'s workouts cause she inspires me and we don't get to hang as much since i graduated from college.

  • I've been running off and on over the years, and probably my biggest achievement was completing last year's Great Aloha Run. I'm looking for local people to run with, somewhere in the 2-4 mile range.

  • Let's see, I started running about a year ago with the goal of running my first marathon, the Honolulu Marathon in 2008. During my training I fell in love with running, and have been in an abusive relationship with it ever since (it keeps kicking my butt, and I keep coming back for more). I've done all my training on my own, so I learned many things the hard way, and probably picked up some serious bad habits that I'm not aware of (therefore I try not to give advice, because it's probably wrong anyway). Everything I know about running, I've learned from Runner's World, so I'm slowly morphing into a middle aged white guy.

Dailymile is kind of an introduction for me to the social aspect of running. Well, besides the marathon with 20,000 of my closest friends (and by "closest friends," of course, I mean complete strangers). I kind of like it so far.

Hm, what else. I'm an overpronator, I use New Balance shoes, I love my Garmin Forerunner 305 and my ipod. My powersong is Audioslave's Gasoline. My current mantra is "my feet is my only carriage, (so I've got to push on through)." I'm not a big fan of the men's performance running shorts (I'm afraid of seeing something I'm not prepared to see). My apologies, I'm kind of reaching for content to make this more interesting. There's really not much to it for me. Just lace up and go!

  • Aloha Hawaii Runners!

I'm a 34 year-old local haole runner from Kailua, currently living in the Punchbowl area. Surfing is my true passion, but I also love running to keep in shape and get the endorphins a-flowin'! I run pretty slowly, 10 minute/mile pace usually. Only run two to three times per week, usually Ala Moana Beach Park during the workweek and then a longer run (6-9 miles) on Saturday or Sunday in the Kahala/Diamond Head area.

If anyone would like to join me, that'd be great. I usually run with my wife, but she is out for the time being with a knee injury.

Keep running and I'll see you around!

    Aloha,
    Adam B.
