Moving to SF, where should I try to live?

posted about 3 years ago | Report

I'm moving in March to SF, and looking for an area to live. Preferably near good running areas :), and reasonable (for SF standards) in price.

Anyone have any tips? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks!!

  • The Presidio and Marina are great places to run, and if you move near the haight/western addition/sunset/richmond, you'll be near golden gate park! Every neighborhood in sf has its own flavor; it depends a lot on what you're looking for in a place to live.

  • There are still some deals to be had in the Mission and it's got a certain hipster vibe. You get lots of sunshine, but the running's not great. The Haight through Richmond areas Eleanor mentioned are also less expensive and running in the Park is great, but you're going to get a lot of fog and overcast. When the sun's out though, it's glorious.

  • I run from the mission to other places, and it's not the greatest, but the sunshine more than makes up for it. Then again, it's been insanely sunny in sf in general this past year. I ran in shorts and a tank top the other day!

  • I live in Potrero Hill, arguably the most consistently sunny area in town (along with Dogpatch, basically bottom of Potrero near the bay).

no tourists, but I think prices have creeped up recently.

As for running, the hills are good for training, and offer perfect views of the city. once down the hill, its pretty flat and smooth sailing to head over by the ball park and along the Embarcadero (borders the city along the water) all the way to the Golden Gate if you like.
