Flat running routes on the west side

posted about 4 years ago | Report

I moved to the far west side last fall and miss all of my flat downtown running routes! I've been running a 2.75 mile hilly (for me) route on High Point between Watts & Midtown, but I'm about to start training for my first half-marathon and would like to find some flatter routes (and hopefully some that could be lengthened as the training progresses...). Does anyone have any favorite west side routes they'd like to share? :)

  • Running down Maple Grove is pretty flat. I took that to Cross Country all the way to Epic, down to Verona Ave and back. Nothing too hilly unless you run all the way up Maple Grove.

Verona is pretty flat in general.

  • Thanks for the tip! I know there are sidewalks on Maple Grove - what about on Cross Country? Have you ever run through Badger Prarie County Park? I only know what google maps shows me...

There are sidewalks the most of the way. You lose the briefly when you run by the soccer fields but the road is in good condition there. It can be a little stressful if it is a soccer day with all the cars but there are sidewalks on at least one side of the street the rest of the way.

I haven't run that park. I was considering it for today's short run, actually. I've seen people in there and it looks like there is a nice trail around it that connects to a couple other trails in the area.
